About Leytonstone Mosque (Leytonstone Masjid)
The Leytonstone Islamic Association was formed in 1969 and at first hired a hall for Jummah and weekend madrassa. In 1974 the community bought the Elliott Rooms property with local donations and began converting it. Leytonstone Masjid opened in 1976 and was registered for solemnising marriages in February 1978.
A major refurbishment in 1995 added a second floor. The mosque began live-streaming in 2017. In May 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdowns, it was among the Waltham Forest mosques given permission to broadcast the Friday call to prayer over loudspeakers.
