About Ilford Islamic Centre
Ilford Islamic Centre began in 1968, when Jumah and Taraweeh prayers were held in two front rooms of a house in Kingswood Road, Goodmayes. The Muslim Welfare Association was set up in 1970. In 1978 it bought St Alban's Church on Albert Road for £40,000, and over the following years it bought the neighbouring properties at 50–58 Albert Road.
Work on a new purpose-built mosque began in July 1994, and in 1997 Ilford's first purpose-built mosque, with a dome and minaret, was completed. The centre bought the Mildmay car park opposite in 1998. A madrassah and a day care and community centre opened in 2003, and a mosque extension was completed in 2011.
