About Madrassa Taleem ul Islam
The building, a villa called Norwoodville, was built in 1878 as a house and converted into a synagogue in 1928 by the Orthodox Hebrew Congregation of Pollokshields. It served as a synagogue for over 50 years. In 1988 the Madrasa Taleem ul Islam Trust bought the then-empty building to meet the needs of the growing local Muslim community.
A two-year renovation finished in 2005 improved disabled access and washrooms and added a mirror mosaic to the main prayer hall. The Madrasa holds up to 700 worshippers for the five daily prayers, Jumu'ah and Eid, and runs religious classes for all ages.
