Al-Manar Centre Prayer Times & Jummah

The Al-Manar Centre is a Sunni mosque and Muslim community centre on Glynrhondda Street in the Cathays district of Cardiff, Wales. It was first established in 1992 and operates as an independent local charity (Al-Manar Centre Trust, UK registered charity no. 1130211) funded by public donations. The centre describes itself as adhering to the teachings of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa'ah, and reference directories and Wikipedia categorise it within the Salafi tradition. It is also known by alternate names including Masjid-e-Abu Hurairah, Al-Manar Islamic and Cultural Centre, and the Discover Islam Centre.

As well as offering daily congregational prayers, the centre runs Qur'an recitation and memorisation classes, Arabic and English language instruction, youth programmes and mentoring, and community support services such as food parcels and a foodbank. Its registered charitable objects include advancing Islamic education through study of the Qur'an and Arabic, providing prayer facilities for Sunni Muslims, fostering community relations and religious harmony in Cardiff and the surrounding area, relieving unemployment among Muslims, and relieving poverty, sickness and distress.

A widely repeated claim holds that a mosque was registered at the Glynrhondda Street address as early as 1860, which would have made the site the oldest mosque in the United Kingdom. This claim has been shown to stem from a transcription error in the Register of Religious Sites; the Liverpool Muslim Institute (established 1891) is recognised as Britain's first mosque, and the Al-Manar Centre itself dates from 1992.

In July 2025 the Charity Commission for England and Wales issued an official warning to the Al-Manar Centre Trust following a statutory inquiry. The inquiry concerned a video posted on the charity's social media on 2 November 2023 that the Commission found presented a positive image of Hamas, a proscribed organisation. The Commission found misconduct and/or mismanagement relating to insufficient social media controls; the trustees complied with a compliance order to strengthen their procedures.
