About The Islamic Centre – Leicester Mosque (Sutherland Street)
The Islamic Centre was set up in 1968 by Pakistani Muslims in Leicester. Local Muslims had been using houses on Sutherland Street for prayer since about 1965, and it is one of the city's oldest mosques. It was extended in the 1970s as Muslims from East Africa settled in Leicester. The centre's trustees later built the Leicester Central Mosque on Conduit Street.
