About Jamia Masjid (Burton-on-Trent)

Burton's Muslim community first established a mosque in 1975 in a converted house on Byrkley Street, then moved to Princess Street in 1977 — the fifth purpose-built mosque in the country. The present Jamia Hanfia Ghosia Mosque (Princess Street Mosque) was rebuilt on the same site in 2000 in a traditional style with a minaret and dome. Managed by the town's predominantly Pakistani Sunni (Barelwi) community, it offers daily prayers, funeral/burial support and Islamic education, and is run by the registered charity Jamia Hanfia Ghosia Mosque and Princess Street Resource Centre.
