About Burton-on-Trent Central Mosque
The mosque occupies a former Victorian board school on Uxbridge Street that was converted into a mosque in 1994 and also served as a Pakistani community centre. It traces the town's Muslim provision back to 1975, when Burton's first mosque opened in a converted house on Byrkley Street to serve the predominantly Sunni community. Today it operates as a registered charity (no. 1139907, "Central Jamia Mosque Rizvia") in the Sunni Barelwi tradition, providing daily prayers, Jummah, funeral and marriage services and Islamic education.
