About Preston Jamia Masjid (Deepdale)
Preston Jamia Masjid on Deepdale Road is one of the oldest mosques in Preston, founded in 1958 to serve the growing South Asian Muslim community that settled in Preston in the post-war years. Preston has a substantial Muslim population with roots primarily in Pakistan, particularly Azad Kashmir.
The mosque provides the five daily prayers, Friday Jumu'ah, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha congregations, and taraweeh throughout Ramadan. It runs a madrasah and Islamic education for children and youth, and plays a central role in the community life of Preston's Muslim population.
Deepdale Road, where the mosque is situated, has historically been one of the main streets of Preston's Muslim community and is close to Preston North End's Deepdale football ground.
