About Markazi Jamia Masjid Riza & Islamic Centre

The building was a Free Wesleyan (later United Methodist) chapel designed by John Kirk & Sons, known locally as the 'Teapot Chapel' after the ornamental urn on its gable. It stopped being a place of worship in 1962.

In 1976 it was bought by Sunni Muslims and adapted as a mosque. As the congregation grew, it was extended with a first floor and a larger ladies' area, and the exterior was remodelled so it could be recognised as a mosque. The mosque describes itself as one of the largest in Huddersfield.
