About Markazi Masjid (Huddersfield)

Markazi Masjid Huddersfield is the principal mosque for Huddersfield's large Muslim community, founded in 1969 by South Asian Muslims who settled in Huddersfield to work in the textile mills of West Yorkshire.

Located in the Catherine Street area close to Huddersfield town centre, the mosque has expanded substantially over the decades to serve a Muslim population that now numbers well over 20,000 across the Huddersfield district. It hosts the five daily prayers, multiple Friday Jumu'ah sessions, large Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha congregations, and taraweeh throughout Ramadan.

The mosque runs a comprehensive Islamic school and madrasah, marriage and funeral services, and community welfare activities that support Muslim families across Huddersfield, Dewsbury and the wider Kirklees area.
