About Annandale Mosque (Edinburgh Polish-Muslim community)

Annandale Mosque (also recorded as Annandale Street Mosque and known by the name Anwar-e-Madina) is a Sunni mosque and community centre at 43-45 Annandale Street, in central Edinburgh's Broughton/Bellevue area. It was established in 1996 and is associated with the Pakistani community of Edinburgh, with management historically linked to the Pakistani Association of Edinburgh. The mosque follows the Barelwi tradition within Sunni Islam.

The building is arranged over more than one floor, with a main ground/first-floor prayer hall and a separate women's prayer hall on an upper floor; published figures put the main hall at around 500 worshippers and the women's hall at around 200, with a total capacity reported at about 800. The premises also provide space used for community functions, and ablution (wudu) facilities are provided within the building.

Today the organisation is constituted as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, "Annandale Mosque and Community Centre" (Scottish charity number SC050270), registered with OSCR on 7 July 2020. Its stated charitable purposes are the advancement of education, the advancement of religion, and the promotion of religious and racial harmony, and it works to support the spiritual, educational, recreational and welfare needs of the Muslim community while fostering interfaith dialogue. For the year to 31 March 2025 it reported income of about £151,000.

Alongside daily and Friday (Jummah) congregational prayers, the mosque runs Quran classes and Urdu-language classes, and offers marriage and funeral services. It has also hosted a Pakistan consulate surgery for the local Pakistani community. Urdu and English are the main languages used by the congregation.
