About Markazi Masjid (Dewsbury)
Building work began in 1978 and was completed in 1982. The mosque's founder, Hafiz Patel, remained its leading figure until his death in 2016. The trust that runs it, Anjuman-e-Islahul Muslimeen of UK, has a governing document dated June 1975.
The Markaz is the European centre of the Tablighi Jamaat, co-ordinating its activity across Britain and hosting large annual gatherings (ijtema). The site also housed the Institute of Islamic Education, a boarding seminary founded in 1980 that formally closed in January 2023.
