About Bristol Jamia Mosque
The building was put up in 1889 as St Katherine's, a mission room of Holy Nativity Church, Knowle. It closed in 1961, apart from weekly services for elderly residents that continued until 1964.
In 1968 the Bristol Muslim Association, which had borrowed the hall for occasional functions, bought it from the parish council for £2,500 and converted it into Bristol's first mosque. A dome and minaret were added in 1980. According to Wikipedia, the main hall holds 700 and a separate women's prayer hall holds 140.
