About Bedford Central Mosque

Bedford Central Mosque, formally the Bedford Central Jamee Masjid and Islamic Cultural Centre, is a Sunni mosque located at 34 Brereton Road (on the corner of Alexandra Road) in the Castle area of central Bedford, Bedfordshire. It serves the town's Muslim community and is run principally by people of Bangladeshi heritage, with services and instruction offered in Bengali (Bangla) and English. The mosque has a capacity of around 650 worshippers.

The organisation is a registered charity (number 1081598). Its governing constitution was adopted on 25 July 1999 and the charity was entered on the Charity Commission register on 17 July 2000, with the constitution subsequently amended in 2000, 2008 and 2011. Its charitable objects are to advance Islam, to relieve poverty through advice and support services, and to promote good community relations across Bedford.

Day to day, the mosque holds the five daily congregational prayers and Friday (Jummah) prayers, and provides religious education including Arabic classes and Hifz (Qur'an memorisation) classes for the community. It also coordinates and conducts funeral (Janazah) prayers. The centre follows the Sunni Deobandi tradition and the building accommodates both men and women, with provision for women worshippers.
