About Aberdeen Mosque & Islamic Centre

Aberdeen Mosque and Islamic Centre (AMIC) is the first mosque established in Aberdeen and the north east of Scotland, founded in October 1978 by a small number of University of Aberdeen students and local business people, initially in a small house near the university. As the community grew, adjacent houses were acquired to form the Spital site (164 Spital, AB24 3JD). In March 2022 the centre opened a larger Central Mosque on Frederick Street, which now serves as the main mosque for Aberdeen and the surrounding area, while the older Spital site continues to serve students and nearby residents. It is registered as a Scottish charity (SCIO SC048009) and is described as the largest mosque and Islamic centre in the north east of Scotland.
