About Worthing Mosque
Worship in Worthing began in the mid-1970s when local Muslim families, lacking a dedicated space, prayed in temporary venues including an Indian restaurant, a Scout hall and the Labour Hall on Lyndhurst Road; the Worthing Islamic Social and Welfare Society was formed around 1976 and gained charity registration (number 294050) in 1985. After an earlier Lyndhurst Road house was sold due to planning difficulties, the Society purchased the Ivy Arch Road premises in 1994 and established Masjid Assalam, the town's main mosque. The downstairs main prayer space was refurbished in 2005, and the centre today serves a community of over 1,500, offering five daily prayers, Jummah, a women's hall, a madrasah and an Islamic library.
