About Welwyn Garden City Mosque
Welwyn Islamic Society (WIS) is the main Muslim organisation serving Welwyn Garden City and the wider Welwyn Hatfield area. It was established in 1977, starting with a volunteer team of 4 and around 10 Muslim families, and is a registered charity (No. 1155040). Its activities include daily and Friday congregational prayers, lectures, celebration of religious festivals, and Islamic education for young people in the local community, which has grown to several thousand Muslims of diverse backgrounds. Due to that growth, the Society has been fundraising for a larger, purpose-built mosque.
