Surah Al-Kauthar

Surah al-Kauthar is the shortest surah in the Quran. Revealed as a consolation to the Prophet ﷺ after his son Ibrahim died in infancy, it promises him al-Kauthar — an abundant river in Paradise — and declares that it is his enemies who are truly without progeny.

When to read

Verses (3)

1

إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ

Inna a'taynaka l-kawthar

Indeed, We have granted you al-Kauthar (abundance).

فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ

Fasalli li-rabbika wa nhar

So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].

3

إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الْأَبْتَرُ

Inna sha'ni'aka huwa l-abtar

Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.
