Surah al-Ikhlas defines the absolute oneness of Allah (Tawhid) in just four short verses. The Prophet ﷺ said it is equivalent in reward to a third of the Qur'an (Sahih al-Bukhari 5013). It is one of the most frequently recited surahs after al-Fatiha.
Virtues & Benefits
- Equivalent to one-third of the Qur'an in reward (Sahih al-Bukhari 5013).
- Reciting it 10 times builds a house in Paradise (Musnad Ahmad).
- Loving this surah is a sign of loving Allah (Sahih al-Bukhari 7375).
When to read
- Three times in the morning and three times in the evening, with al-Falaq and an-Nas (Sunan Abi Dawud 5082).
- Before sleeping — the Prophet ﷺ would blow into his hands after reciting it and wipe over his body.
- Often recited in the second rak'ah of voluntary prayers such as Witr, Sunnah of Fajr and Tahajjud.

اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ
Allahu s-samad
Allah, the Eternal, the Absolute (upon whom all depend).

لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ
Lam yalid wa lam yulad
He neither begets, nor is He begotten.

وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ
Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad
And there is none comparable to Him.
