About Masjid e Anwaar e Madinah

Masjid e Anwaar e Madinah is widely regarded as the largest mosque in Sunderland and serves the city's Pakistani-heritage Muslim community. The congregation previously worshipped in a small converted flat building that had become too cramped and lacked parking, so after years of fundraising and community donations they acquired and converted a large former warehouse on St Mark's Road. The mosque opened in 2018 and was the first in Sunderland to be built with a dome and minarets. Alongside daily prayers it runs a madrasah teaching children the Quran and offers community services including marriage (nikah) and funeral support.

It is the first mosque in Sunderland to feature a traditional dome and minarets. It is described as the largest mosque in the Sunderland area, created by converting a large former warehouse rather than constructing from scratch. The project was funded entirely through community donations after the congregation outgrew a small converted-flat prayer space.
