About Northampton Central Mosque (Markazi Masjid)
Northampton Central Mosque in the St James area is the principal mosque serving Northampton's Muslim community, established in 1975. Northampton's Muslim population has its roots primarily in Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities that settled in the town in the 1960s and 1970s, many initially working in the boot and shoe manufacturing industries.
The mosque provides the five daily prayers, Friday Jumu'ah, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha congregations, and taraweeh throughout Ramadan. It also runs a madrasah and Islamic education classes for children across the area.
Northampton Central Mosque plays a central role in the spiritual and social life of the Muslim community in Northampton and the surrounding Northamptonshire area.
