About Newcastle Central Mosque

Newcastle Central Mosque is the principal mosque for Tyneside's Muslim community, established in 1971. Located in the Shieldfield area close to Newcastle city centre, it serves as the main hub of Islamic worship and community life for Muslims across Newcastle, Gateshead and the wider North East.

The mosque provides the five daily prayers, Friday Jumu'ah, large Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha congregations, and taraweeh throughout Ramadan. Newcastle's Muslim community includes students from the city's universities, long-established South Asian and Arab families, and newer arrivals from across the Muslim world.

Newcastle Central Mosque is active in interfaith dialogue and civic engagement, working with local schools, faith groups and the council to promote understanding between communities in the North East.
