About Penny Lane Mosque & Islamic Centre
The Liverpool Mosque & Islamic Institute, widely known as the Penny Lane Mosque, was established in 1998 to serve Muslims living in Mossley Hill and the wider south Liverpool area. It was registered as a charity (no. 1071951) with the Charity Commission on 13 October 1998, with the stated object of advancing the Islamic religion.
The mosque sits at 8 Cramond Avenue in the L18 postcode district, a short distance from the famous Penny Lane, from which it takes its popular name. It is a Sunni (mainstream) mosque run by the local community and accommodating both male and female worshippers.
Alongside daily prayers and Friday Jummah, the institute runs a supplementary Islamic education programme for children, providing after-school and weekday-evening religious classes for boys and girls. The mosque is an important community and worship resource for the Muslim population of south Liverpool and the surrounding Merseyside area.
