About Inverness Mosque
Inverness Masjid is run by the Inverness Masjid Association, a Scottish charity (OSCR SC037012) registered in 2005, and serves the Muslim community across the Highlands. After outgrowing a temporary home at Northern Meeting Park, the association bought the former Portland Club, a Rangers supporters' social club, for around 180,000 pounds and converted it into a purpose-built mosque accommodating roughly 300 worshippers, with refurbishment completed in 2014. Widely reported as the United Kingdom's most northerly mosque, it draws worshippers from as far afield as Skye, Fort William and Shetland, with more than 100 attending Friday prayers. The earlier "Inverness Islamic Centre" charity (OSCR SC029265, 18 Mackay Road) was removed from the register in 2017, with the Inverness Masjid Association now the active body.
