Eid al-Adha prayer guide

Salat al-Eid is two rak'ahs with additional Takbeers, prayed in congregation — often outdoors or in a large hall. It is Wajib (obligatory) according to the Hanafi school and an emphasised Sunnah for others.

  • Prayed shortly after sunrise (about 15–20 minutes after) up until just before Dhuhr.
  • No Adhan or Iqamah is called for the Eid prayer.
  • Twelve extra Takbeers — seven in the first rak'ah, five in the second.
  • Followed by two khutbahs (sermons).
  • Make Ghusl, wear your best clothes, and eat after the prayer (unlike Eid al-Fitr).

Qurbani (Udhiyah) 2026

Qurbani (Arabic: قُرْبَانِي), or Udhiyah, is the sacrifice of a permitted animal during the days of Eid al-Adha, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's (AS) devotion. It is Wajib on every sane adult Muslim who possesses wealth above the Nisab. The meat is divided into three parts: one for the family, one for relatives and friends, and one for those in need.

Qurbani can be given through a registered, trustworthy charity of your choice that arranges the sacrifice and distributes the meat to families in need.
