Is Jummah prayer obligatory in the UK?

Updated 2026-07-28

Quick Answer

Yes. Jummah is obligatory for every free, adult, sane Muslim man who is resident (not a traveller), as commanded in Qur’an 62:9. Women, travellers and those with a valid excuse are exempt but may attend. It replaces Dhuhr on Friday.

In detail

The fard of Jummah is two rak‘ahs after two khutbahs, prayed in congregation.

UK mosques often run multiple sessions between roughly 12:00 and 2:30 PM depending on season and city.
