Check the mosque’s current timetable for jama’ah and Friday prayer. ## About Aziziye Mosque The building opened as the Apollo Picture House cinema in 1913, reopened as the Ambassador Cinema in 1933 and later traded as the Astra Cinema before closing in 1983. It is on Hackney Council's list of locally listed buildings. The UK Turkish Islamic Association first rented space in Simson House in 1980. It bought the former cinema in May 1983, and the mosque opened for worship in 1984. For several years prayers took place on the old sloping cinema floor until the current prayer hall was built. The centre also has a conference hall, classrooms, a restaurant and a butcher's.
