## About Lincoln Mosque

Lincoln's organised Muslim community traces back to 1981, and the institution is run by The Islamic Association of Lincoln (UK registered charity no. 1179846). The community originally worshipped in a former Baptist church on Orchard Street in the city centre, which could hold only around 60 worshippers, and also used the Grandstand Community Centre for Friday prayers as the congregation outgrew its premises.

After an earlier proposal near Boultham Park was rejected, the association acquired a site off Boultham Park Road in November 2012 and secured planning permission for a purpose-built mosque. Following a lengthy fundraising and construction effort — and setbacks including the original contractor going into administration — the new Lincoln Central Mosque & Cultural Centre on Dixon Street opened in 2018. It is described as the only purpose-built mosque in Lincolnshire.

Today the mosque serves a diverse congregation drawn from around 40 nationalities. Alongside the five daily prayers and Friday Jummah, it offers Islamic education, community programmes, a food bank (run in partnership with the Acts Trust, Lincoln), and funeral services including a dedicated mortuary and Janazah prayers. As of 2025 the association reported work to restore its original Orchard Street premises.
