In congregation ## How is the Eid al-Adha prayer performed? Salat al-Eid is two rak'ahs with extra Takbeers, prayed in congregation — often outdoors or in a large hall. It is Wajib in the Hanafi school and an emphasised Sunnah for others. There is no Adhan or Iqamah. Unlike Eid al-Fitr, it is recommended to eat after the prayer, not before. - Prayed shortly after sunrise (about 15–20 minutes after) until just before Dhuhr. - Twelve extra Takbeers — seven in the first rak'ah, five in the second (common Hanafi count; other schools differ). - Followed by two khutbahs. - Make Ghusl and wear clean clothes. Qurbani (Udhiyah) is the sacrifice of a permitted animal during the days of Eid al-Adha, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) devotion. In the Hanafi school it is wajib on every sane adult Muslim who possesses wealth above the nisab. Meat is customarily divided in three: family, relatives and friends, and people in need.
