It was established in 1996 and is associated with the Pakistani community of Edinburgh, with management historically linked to the Pakistani Association of Edinburgh. The building is arranged over more than one floor, with a main ground/first-floor prayer hall and a separate women's prayer hall on an upper floor; published figures put the main hall at around 500 worshippers and the women's hall at around 200, with a total capacity reported at about 800. The premises also provide space used for community functions, and ablution (wudu) facilities are provided within the building. Today the organisation is constituted as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, "Annandale Mosque and Community Centre" (Scottish charity number SC050270), registered with OSCR on 7 July 2020.
