The premises were purchased by local Muslim elders in the early 1980s and converted into a mosque in 1983, making it one of the longest-established and largest mosques in the south west of England. The congregation is of mixed origins with a Pakistani majority, and the mosque follows the Sunni Hanafi Barelwi tradition. As a registered charity (no. 1174320) its purposes are to advance Islam and provide Islamic education and community welfare for local residents.
