The Quranic dua of the Servants of the Most Merciful — asking Allah for a righteous spouse, righteous children and a place among the leaders of the God-fearing. Arabic, transliteration and full meaning.

In the closing verses of Surah al-Furqan, Allah describes the qualities of the 'Ibad ar-Rahman — the Servants of the Most Merciful. They walk humbly, spend in charity, pray through the night, and end every list of their virtues with one final dua: a request for a family that brings comfort to the eye and a position among the righteous.

## The dua for spouse and children

Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa dhurriyyatina qurrata a'yunin waj'alna lil-muttaqina imama.

Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes, and make us a leader for the God-fearing.

(Surah al-Furqan 25:74)

## What the dua really asks for

The phrase qurrata a'yun — 'coolness of the eyes' — is a beautiful Arabic idiom. Tears of grief are hot; tears of joy are cool. The dua asks Allah to give a spouse and children whose conduct, faith and presence cool the eye with joy rather than burn it with worry. The second half asks for something even higher: not just to be righteous, but to lead the righteous.

## When to recite this dua

- Single Muslims looking for marriage — recite it morning and evening with sincere conviction.
- Couples trying for children — recite it after every fard prayer along with the duas of Zakariyya (AS) for righteous offspring (Surah Aal Imran 3:38).
- Parents of young children — recite it when looking at them sleeping, and when difficulties arise in their tarbiyah.
- Spouses going through difficulty — recite together; the dua includes the spouse you already have.

## Other Quranic duas for family

Pair this dua with: 'Rabbi hab li mil-ladunka dhurriyyatan tayyibah' — 'My Lord, grant me from Yourself a pure offspring' (Surah Aal Imran 3:38, the dua of Zakariyya AS). Also: 'Rabbi hab li minas-salihin' — 'My Lord, grant me a righteous one' (Surah as-Saffat 37:100, the dua of Ibrahim AS that was answered with Ismail AS).

## Quran reference

The dua is from Surah al-Furqan (25:74), the closing portion describing the Ibad ar-Rahman — the Servants of the Most Merciful. It is one of the most-recited duas in Muslim weddings and after the births of children.
